Croup

So it was determined that Ari has croup and I am just having a hard time trying to figure out how to deal with it. She's fine during the day and there was only once or twice when I thought she had a fever (which she didn't). She really just coughs at night but not to the point where she's not getting good sleep. The cough just sounds so awful that I feel like a horrible mother because I am not doing something to help her. If I had a cough like that I would be taking five over the counter medications and I feel awful that I can't give her something to help alleviate her discomfort. Has anyone else ever experienced this? I know that croup is common and that it could be much worse, so obviously Ari has a mild case of it but I still feel like an awful person to just let her ride it out like the doctor said. I didn't even take her to the doctor. I only called the pediatrician and the nurse advised me to just let her ride it out. I hate feeling like I'm ignoring something that I shouldn't ignore. I'm just glad she is operating as usual 20 out of the 24 hours : )
